Understanding Unconscious Bias

Presented by Tawny Hiatt, Center for Leadership Development

Panelist: Kathy Helms

The challenge with unconscious biases (also referred to as implicit bias) is that we all have them but are often unaware that we do. Yet, these biases have profound impacts on hiring, retaining talent, and management practices. In this webinar, we will explore why it is important to examine our biases, their impacts, and why our brain formulates them. We will also interview faculty members to explore their experience with working through their own biases, and the impacts of being on the receiving end of a biases. Participants will come away with at least one method of how to mitigate the impact of unconscious bias on our team and thus the missions we serve.
