We look forward to welcoming you to Leadership for a Democratic Society. As you make arrangements for participation, we have compiled a listing of most frequently asked questions. This listing of questions will continue to grow, and some responses may be updated.

Q. What happens if my agency is affected by a government shutdown?
A. If a government shutdown occurs, participants will need to contact their organization’s Human Resource (or Training) office for guidance. As a revolving fund entity, the Federal Executive Institute will continue to offer the Leadership for a Democratic Society program even if a government shutdown occurs. Those organizations who can still send executives will. Those organizations who restrict travel during a shutdown will work with a Registration Specialist to reschedule their executives for another LDS program.

Q. What if I need a reasonable accommodation?
A. Participants with reasonable accommodations must communicate the requests to the Program Coordinator at least 3 weeks prior to program start. The welcome message will be sent a minimum of 4 weeks prior to start identifying key individuals for communication.

Q. Does the Federal Executive Institute (FEI) provide a transcript or letter of completion?
A. FEI does not provide an “academic” transcript because we are not an academic institution and do not provide a grade for completing the program, only a verification of the completion of hours. Most Executive Education courses are not credit bearing experiences and do not show up on a transcript from a university.  Upon successful completion of an Executive Education course typically the participants receive a certificate from the university (or institute) which authored and taught the course.

It is up to the accepting institution or organization to make a determination if they will accept the hours towards any credit for experience or participation. The organization or university bears the responsibility to determine, if there is additional documentation needed beyond the letter of completion with the stated hours, they can request additional information to accompany the letter on the stated hours.
